Would you pay more than £30 for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Burger King DLC skin? Because some people are

Here’s a phrase I never would have expected even about a week ago: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Fans give away up to £30+ on codes for a Burger King Skin.

The advertisement for the promotion of Modern Warfare/Burger King.

A quick look on eBay will tell you that people are listing codes picked up by Burger King for a limited time in-game cosmetic and the asking price is often over £30. Some are higher – after all, there is demand for what is on offer – and some even charge postage surcharges. Which… is interesting… since all you have to do is enter the code into your console or PC to redeem it.

Burger King is currently offering a Call of Duty menu that accompanies you with a free in-game Operator skin (basically it’s just a t-shirt commemorating the fictional place in the universe, Burger Town) and an hour double rewards XP for playing Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer.

The promotion isn’t available in the US or UK – although it’s offered in over 40 other countries around the world. As such, people from the two excluded nations are likely to pay out of pocket for a chance to wear a BK shirt in-game. Prices are now climbing down a bit; Ahead of the weekend, we saw $40 deals sell out fairly quickly.

It’s really refreshing considering that promotions are usually unfairly stacked in favor of promotions in the US and UK – many entries on the auction site are from Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, France or Australia.

In some areas, like Puerto Rico according to the tweet embedded below, the promotion extends beyond an MW2 meal, and CoD has even taken on the branding of the entire location.

Whether the Burger Town skin will be released outside of this promotion, or whether more official ways will be introduced for UK and US players to snag the cosmetic remains to be seen. However, if you want to be a walking, talking advert for BK and live in the UK or US, you’ll have to wait – or shell out some money – for now.
