Why Genshin Impact’s Wanderer is one of the most anticipated characters of all time

Genshin Impact is known for teasing characters long before their intended release date. Ayaka and Cyno are two popular examples of this, having been revealed in a trailer well before the release of their respective regions. Many players also believe that some of the Harbingers fall into the same category. Recently, however, HoYoverse officially announced Scaramouche, or “the Wanderer,” as a playable character, which caused a lot of excitement in the community.

Detailed story teasers and beautiful character art have just been released, underscoring Scaramouche’s role in the story of Genshin Impact. However, what makes him one of the most anticipated playable characters in the game is the fact that he has appeared multiple times in limited time events and even in the main questline. These appearances generated a lot of hype around the arrogant Harbinger, making his reveal (or what the community calls “drip marketing”) all the more impactful.

Genshin Impact Scaramouche popularity explained

Scaramouche from Genshin Impact First appeared during the Unreconciled Stars limited-time event. In the event quest What the Sky Hides, the Water Reveals, Scaramouche turns out to be Balladeer, the sixth Harbinger. This happened back in version 1.1 of the game, which is why so many players knew about Scaramouche early on. During his performance, he also reflected on the sky and stars being a lie, leading to several theories about the land of Teyvat.

He would appear again in the Genshin Impact Archon Quests of Inazuma, playing the role of a secondary antagonist. The Traveler would confront him in a run-down Delusion factory only to fall into a trap. Yae Miko would ultimately save the Traveler’s life, but at the cost of the Electro-Archon’s Gnosis.

Now Scaramouche owns it. He even cut ties with the Eleven Fatui Harbingers. Although he has yet to appear physically in the Sumeru Archon Quests Genshin Impactin act 3 the traveler sees a vision of him in a dream: “dreams, emptiness, delusion”.

The Wanderer of Genshin Impact has been teased numerous times, so it’s no surprise that so many players are excited that he’s finally being marketed as a playable character. Not only that, although his appearances during the quests were brief, they were effective. He created intrigue by implying that the stars and sky were fake. He later established himself as a force to be reckoned with by trapping the Traveler. Finally, the most recent vision in the Sumeru questline revealed that despite his status as a villain, he has his motivations for doing what he does – from losing his own mother to being abandoned by those he thought were friends. In short, he was built into a mysterious but compelling character.

On a less serious note, fans of Genshin Impact also likes his character design, especially the huge hat. There’s something eerily endearing about a fearsome foe that looks like a kid in an oversized hat. So, unsurprisingly, players were happy when Scaramouche’s playable character art depicted him wearing a giant hat.

Now, two years after Scaramouche was first revealed, he will finally be available as a playable character. There is no official date for his release yet, but the community speculates that it will be early December this year. But the players are already saving Genshin Impact Primogems for his inevitable reveal of the wish banner. Once that happens, HoYoverse will likely move on to the next character they’ll be teasing – maybe Il Dottore or one of the other unreleased forerunners.

Genshin Impact is now available on mobile, PC, PS4 and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
