Which bride-to-be betrayed her fiancé at the altar?

Last week, Twitter had some choice words for love is blind, MBA student Sikiru “SK” Alagbada – who decided at the altar that he could not marry Pilates teacher Raven Ross. But as difficult as it was to watch Raven tearfully accept a hug from her fiancé’s disappointed mother, the moment pales in comparison to the emotional carnage of the finale, which debuted on Netflix this Wednesday.

Some of this week’s results (*cough* Nancy and Bartise *cough*) were somewhat expected. But another wedding nearly rivaled Giannina Milady Gibelli’s runaway bride moment for sheer shock value.

Where to start, where to start Well, there’s last week’s cliffhanger: have Nancy Rodriguez and Bartise Bowden tied the knot after that extremely long hiatus that saw us leave Bartise last week? Readers, you will be easy shocked to learn that after weeks of telling Nancy, his friends and every viewer at home that he wasn’t that into this relationship, Bartise said “no” after his fiancé said “yes” at the altar.

Bartise may have rejected Nancy down the aisle — having spent much of their relationship repeating that she’s not his usual “guy” — but it seems the man Reddit has dubbed “Barfsneeze” was still hoping that he and Nancy could stay together.

After the ceremony broke up, Bartise pulled his not-so-lucky bride aside in hopes of smoothing things over – at which point her family stepped in to give him their say, even as Nancy asked her to back off.

“What I’ve been through in the real world with you and your family, and everything we’ve talked about, to me there’s no point that there’s any point in going up there and saying ‘yes,’” Bartis said . Nancy’s mother and brother, meanwhile, refused to back down. Her brother consistently insisted that he hated being “right” about Bartise, while her mother insisted, “He’s not ready for who you are. Because you’re too much for him.”

When the pair finally managed to find time alone, Nancy told Bartise that he “fucking gassed me.”

“I was ready to marry you for who you are,” she said. “But in the end it was you who wasn’t ready. For me it’s not, ‘Oh, maybe it’ll work out later.’ For me it’s like, no, I chose you and you didn’t choose me… I said yes and you said no. Why isn’t that black and white?”

Somehow this wasn’t even the wildest of weddings – it was just the first. Next up was Alexa Alfia and Brennon Lemieux, whose wedding obviously went off without a hitch because despite their many obvious differences, these two seem to be actually quite good together! and then came the big ones, Cole Barnett and Zanab Jaffrey.

It seemed obvious from the start that Cole and Zay’s wedding was going to be dicey, but this path in which it fell apart is somehow particularly confusing.

Cole and Zanab are one of those couples who seem to spend all their personal time on it love is blind struggle to reclaim what they “had in their pods”. This usually has to do with the fact that they “didn’t know each other,” but as far as Cole was concerned, the two had made real progress just before their wedding — despite all the obvious signs that their relationship might not be working. As the groom told his friends, “We’re really good now. Even when we were fighting, we were always trying to work through something and achieve something and make progress. I think a big part of our love story is that we came full circle.

Zanab too seemed sentimental as she and her potential future husband prepared to stroll down the aisle. “The fact that I’m here and that Cole is here and that we fell in love with each other, I just believe that God had His hand in every step,” she said. “…I know I could have a happy life with Cole, but I need him on board with it.”

“I guess I honestly won’t know until I look up and see Cole,” she added. “I think in that moment I’ll know everything I need to know.”

At the beginning of her ceremony, Zanab said a prayer — “because that’s what bound Cole and I together” — thanking God for meeting him. She told Cole that before they saw each other, she had fallen in love with him because of the warmth she felt from him. However, when it came time to take the vow, her tone began to change.

“I think I have a really good idea of what kind of woman is going to love you the way Cole needs to be loved every day for the rest of your life,” Zanab told her fiancé. “And I think you and I both know that’s not me… You disrespected me, you insulted me, you criticized me, and for what it’s worth, you single-handedly shook my confidence.” And I hate that you had that effect on me.”

“You disrespected me, you insulted me, you criticized me, and for what it’s worth, you single-handedly shook my confidence.”

“The bad thing is, I know I love you,” Zanab continued. “But everything inside me, in the logical part of my brain, tells me that love shouldn’t feel like this. Love shouldn’t hurt like this. I can’t marry you and I don’t want to.”

When the woman he had thought he would marry walked away from him, Cole remained stoic at first. After a few minutes, however, he began to vent that Zanab had never said that much to him during their relationship; Instead, he realized, she had waited to do it in front of his friends and family because it would hurt him more. “This is such a joke,” he said. “…She fooled me, big time.”

“I knew we weren’t perfect, but were we?” he finished with a sneer. “It’s one of the worst experiences of my life.”

Something tells me these two are going to have some very interesting conversations when the time comes to meet again.

Last but not least came Colleen Reed and Matt Bolton – the latter of whom fans have been calling out for weeks about his jealousy issues. (Honestly, apart from Brennon, this season’s boys have been far from inspiring.) Still, it was an enthusiastic “yes” from the bride and groom — and lots of “holy shit!” afterwards.

With all the champagne popped, rings exchanged (or rejected), and “I want” and “I don’t want” declarations, all that’s left seems to be this dramatic reunion. Based on what we’ve seen this season, it feels safe to borrow a popular catchphrase from a certain other dating show and say it just might be The Most Dramatic love is blind Goodbye ever. Which bride-to-be betrayed her fiancé at the altar?
