The new Deus Ex game is reportedly in “very very early” development at Eidos Montreal

On news that emracer Onoma (formerly known as Square Enix Montreal) has shut down, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier took to Twitter so everyone knows where things are right now. Some of Onoma’s staff will be moving to Eidos Montreal, and Eidos has since canceled its upcoming Stranger Things title.

We definitely asked about it. More specifically, about a month ago, when Alex and Jim raised the prospect of a new Deus Ex after the Embracer deal.

That news wasn’t entirely bleak, however, as Schreier then mentioned what Eidos Montreal is currently working on. In addition to a new IP and co-development partnerships with Xbox (including Fable), Eidos Montreal is reportedly working on a new Deus Ex title.

So far, according to Schreier, the title is said to be in a “very, very early” development.

Just a few months ago, in August, Jeff Grub also spoke to GamesRadar about a Deus Ex comeback. In the discussion, Grubb shared, “The rumble I’ve heard is that the studio wants to jump right into Deus Ex. They want to get back to that immediately. They want to challenge – they want to do what Cyberpunk 2077 couldn’t and stuff like that. That’s the word going around. We’ll see if that happens.”

All of this needs to be taken with a grain of salt, of course, as Grubb himself says, “It’s so early on how this is going to develop. But there was no way this conversation started under the current Square Enix, was there?

Before Embracer acquired Eidos Montreal earlier this year, the development team was owned by Square Enix. With Eidos Montreal and the Deus Ex IP now in the hands of Embracer, it seems all the more likely that we’ll see a new Deus Ex game sooner or later, especially given what Jason Schreier is reporting.

Quote from Schrier’s tweet, the voice actor behind Adam Jensen of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – Elias Toufexis – says: “I’m glad they’re (apparently?) working on a new #DeusEx. Please stop asking me because I don’t know anything about it or if Adam Jensen will even be a part of it.

Since the game is said to be in very early development, we might have to wait a while to see any confirmation or more news about the game. Here’s hoping something comes of this. The new Deus Ex game is reportedly in “very very early” development at Eidos Montreal
