Starfield is “bold” when it comes to tackling philosophical questions, says the composer

Of course, these things take time, and there are many important aspects that need to go into a game during the development phase, including the music, but fans are still excited to see when the new sci-fi IP will be released.


Unfortunately, there is no official confirmation of when starfield will appear, although Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty has said it will come after redfall. Currently, both titles are expected in the first half of 2023, so hopefully a more definitive release date will be revealed soon. Meanwhile, composer Zur discussed her role in the upcoming sci-fi title, the first new IP for Bethesda in 25 years, and offered insights into some of the deeper ideas the game could touch.

In a recent interview with the Gamertag Radio podcast, as seen by PCGamesN, the starfield The composer said music isn’t necessarily about “scale” but about emotion and putting yourself in someone’s shoes, in this case someone who is “star gazing”. They went on to say that Bethesda is particularly “brave and courageous” in tackling some of life’s greatest philosophical questions, including the fate of mankind and the origins of life. Zur says the game could at least try to answer some of these questions in an “original way”. This discussion starts at the 53:50 mark, but the whole interview is definitely worth listening to and starts at the 39:00 mark.

The composer also talks about her musical inspirations, including being introduced to classical music like Beethoven and Mozart at a young age and believing that music is about “feelings”. Zur has composed music for games like Stand outso not only are they no strangers to music in the gaming space, they also have experience working with Bethesda.

At least that’s what it sounds like starfield is in capable hands in terms of emotional composition and allowing players to at least feel deeply through the music. Whether the game will feature that famous step-out moment that other Bethesda titles have is uncertain at this time. But it sounds like it will give fans something to think about regarding the big questions that have been a mainstay of philosophy for thousands of years.
