SNL’s Cecily Strong makes a brilliantly funny pro-choice plea

Last November, Cecily Strong stopped by Weekend Update to deliver one of the most inspirational desk pieces Saturday night live Story as a clown who felt she had no choice but to talk about the abortion she had when she was 23 after Texas passed the six-week abortion ban.

A year later, on the eve of the midterm elections and Roe v. Wade in the rearview mirror, Strong himself returned to the one-up.

This time the veteran SNL The actor starred as “Tammy the Trucker, who promises she’s here to talk about gas prices and definitely not abortion.”

“All I’m talking about here is gasoline, although the Supreme Court ruled Roe v. Wade to this big pit stop in heaven,” she told Colin Jost. “50 years of precedent, beep, beep!”

As the play progressed, Strong gradually dropped her character to open up about how the attack on abortion rights has attacked her.

“I’m just trying to get through this moment, okay?” she explained. “Gasoline prices have gone up and families are suffering, but that’s not going to magically go away no matter who you vote. We are in a global recession fueled by corporate greed and war. However, what will continue to disappear is safe access to abortion. It’s not really magic because they told us they were going to do it and they did it.”

“I don’t want to talk about abortion or Peacock, whatever that is, live on TV,” Strong joked. “But these are scary times, okay? Because they don’t want to just take away access to healthcare. They also want to criminalize it. It’s so bad that we truck drivers are warning each other to delete our period tracking apps. I just want to know what week I’m supposed to wear my crappy underwear, but I can’t in case some moron in Texas thinks my period is evidence of a crime!”

At the end of the segment, Strong told Jost, “The truth is, I’ve felt pretty helpless for the past year, and it’s hard to know what to say to make other truckers feel better.”

“So here’s one thing I can say,” she continued. “There is one thing we can do to fight for mother’s freedom to make our own health decisions and that is vote. And I hope the hell everyone votes. Because remember, we all love someone who has had an abortion — I mean who drives a truck, beep beep!”
