As well as updates for the Resident Evil 4 As much as the gameplay has been shown, so have the characters themselves, who are both familiar and surprisingly fresh in their designs. The new story trailer for Resident Evil 4 begins with what appears to be Ashley Graham, the President’s daughter, being used in a ritual by the infected villagers of Las Plagas. Players were also treated to a glimpse of Osmund Saddler, largely unchanged from the original design, and even Chief Menendez, sporting his classic trench coat and beard, but this time with a very stylish top hat.

Players get their first real look at Ashley Graham, the President’s daughter who is tasked with saving Leon. Ashley has received some criticism from fans in the past, but judging by her introduction in this trailer, it looks like Capcom will be giving the character a welcome update. Ada Wong also appears in the trailer, sporting a similar design to her updated appearance in the Resident Evil 2 Remake. Not only did the fans get to see the heroes, but also the enemies, such as the troll and the right and left hands of Salazar. Speaking of Salazar, this character seems to have received the most notable update. Salazar seems much more feminine and mature than in the original, while previously they seemed young and childlike. It’s unclear if Salazar’s aged appearance came from the Las Plagas parasite, or if it’s just another adaptation.

There is a list of things that the Resident Evil 4 Remake must be avoided, but hopefully changing too much of what fans love about a character doesn’t negatively impact the experience. However, welcome additions are expected, such as how Ashley was captured and more details on the psychological toll the events of Raccoon City had on Leon. Fans are hoping the remake will delve even deeper into the things that made the original so popular, and it’s only a matter of time before players can get their hands on it.

Resident Evil 4 launches March 24, 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
