After months of rollovers, on November 7, 2022, the Powerball jackpot has grown to the largest Powerball jackpot in the game’s history – $1.9 billion with a cash option of nearly $1 billion ($929.1 million dollars to be exact).

Well, as of Monday night, Powerball’s website was showing technical difficulties, and the Twitterverse responded. Normally, draws take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11pm EST. But an online statement read: “Results pending”. At 10:59 p.m., tweets flew about the delay.

As of 5 a.m. Tuesday, the results were still “pending,” according to the Powerball website.

Ironically, this record-breaking jackpot draw was scheduled for the night before Election Day.

Why was Powerball delayed?

According to the 11:07 p.m. California Lottery tweets: “Today’s Powerball drawing has been delayed because a participating lottery requires additional time to complete required security protocols. Powerball has strict security requirements that must be met by all 48 lotteries before a draw can occur.

“Once the necessary security protocols are in place, the drawing will be conducted under the supervision of lottery security officials and independent auditors. The winning numbers will be published as soon as they are available. Thanks for your patience.”

Powerball briefly listed the wrong time to draw

Monday night’s Powerball drawing was delayed, and earlier in the day the game’s website reported the wrong time, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, a newspaper on the USA TODAY Network. Are Lottery Delays Common?

This isn’t the first time the Powerball website has experienced technical difficulties on nights with significant draws. Typically, web traffic to Powerball.com is higher when there is a jackpot of $500 million or more. Interest in the winning numbers or watching the live draw – which is available on the lottery’s website – can cause the technical difficulties.

As of 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Powerball drawing had still not taken place.
