Phillies’ Hoskins’ wife puts beer on her World Series tab

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jayme Hoskins is approached by Philly sports fans.

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins’ wife has had fans crush some World Series beers on her bill. Jayme Hoskins turned into a baseball barfly and let the free beers fly during the recent Phillies’ postseason games.

The beer runs are almost as popular as the one the Phillies threw out in Game 3 against the Astros, a 7-0 drubbing that included a homer from Rhys.

Wearing a red Phillies blazer with “Hoskins” printed on the back, Jayme had fans chanting her name as she snuck to the nearest bar to right field in the hall before Game 4 on Wednesday night.

She had previously tweeted Section 104 as her corner pub of choice in Citizens Bank Park and sent a tip to find her there again about 30 minutes before the first pitch – and her husband wanted to take the field at first base.

“If you know anything about baseball and its quirks, you know where beer is coming soon.” she tweeted.

A bartender painted Hoskins’ “No. 17” in red on her cheek and wore the first baseman’s “Ring the Bell” t-shirt. Another exclaimed, “She wants another 50?” as Jayme ordered another round.

Yes, from 50. For $17 each.

Hoskins might as well have been Rhys as fans crowded her for selfies, and she knelt for a group photo with dozens of World Series foam suckers. She was polite — she’s a Phillies fan, after all — and asked drinkers to have their IDs ready and say “please” and “thank you” to waiters, who push Buds out faster than her husband crushes postseason homener.

She sent her first “beer over here!” tweet when the Phillies lifted the NL pennant in Game 5 of their Championship Series against San Diego. She joked on Twitter that someone should buy her a beer.

Hoskins said she then decided, “No, I’ll buy you all a beer.”

She persevered the tipsiest tradition – the pair hosted a charity event at Philly’s Yards Brewery this year – and have no plans to stop for Game 5 on Thursday night

“I’ve been hearing about Red October for about seven years,” she said. “It didn’t disappoint in any way. It was amazing.

“And I know it’s not over yet!”

South Philly’s Joseph Connolly, wearing a Bryce Harper jersey, sipped his first free Hoskins beer at the first World Series game of his life. The 28-year-old Phillies fan read Hoskins’ tweets and, ahem, happened to be in the area at the same time as her tweets from previous beer giveaways.

“It’s one of the most generous things you can ever do,” he said.

Rhys Hoskins was on board with his wife, who played baseball bartender.

“Whatever it takes, really,” he said prior to Game 4. “She’s having a lot of fun with it. Obviously the fans are enjoying it too.”

However, Hoskins could pass on one of those Budweiser big boys. The thugs’ favorite beer: Yuengling.
