Netflix’s The Witcher series bids farewell to Henry Cavill with a recast of Geralt for season four

To the confusion of many, Henry Cavill no longer plays Geralt in Netflix’s Witcher series, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role.

The good news (depending on how strongly you believe in this rewrite) is that the show will return for a fourth season, although Cavill won’t be returning for it. Netflix announced yesterday (October 29) that the other Hemsworth would be taking on the role, for reasons that aren’t entirely clear, although it may have something to do with the actor officially returning as Superman.

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with monsters and adventure, and sadly I will be laying down my medallion and swords for Season 4,” Cavill said in a statement. “As with the greatest characters in literature, I pass the torch with awe at the time I’ve spent impersonating Geralt and with enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most intriguing and nuanced man.”

Unsurprisingly, Hemsworth also had something to say about his casting: “As a Witcher fan, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill was an incredible Geralt and I am honored that he is handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the blades of the White Wolf for the next chapter of his adventure.”

The third season of The Witcher hasn’t aired yet and is currently scheduled to air in Summer 2023, so we’ve still got a little bit of Cavill to do.

CD Projket Red also recently announced that the first Witcher game is getting a remake made in Unreal Engine 5. There are basically no details on this remake other than the engine it will be created in and the fact that Polish studio Fool’s Theory has done most of the development, but it is the latest in a series of announcements from CD Projekt .
