As first noted by the folks at VGC, it turns out that Kirby and the Forgotten Land could very well be the best-selling game of the entire series now.
Looking at Nintendo’s results for the first six months of the current fiscal year, there’s a strong handful of Switch titles that managed to sell over a million copies. These include Splatoon 3 with 7.9 million units sold, Nintendo Switch Sports with 6.15 million units sold and Mario Strikers: Battle League even with 2.17 million units sold.
That list included Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which sold a whopping 2.61 million units during that fiscal period. This means that overall sales of The Forgotten Land are very impressive 5.27 million.
Today it is widely believed that the Game Boy’s original Kirby game, Kirby’s Dream Land, was the best-selling Kirby game of all time. In a statistic attributed to CESA (Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association), Kirby’s Dream Land reportedly sold 5.13 million units.
Assuming CESA’s figure is correct, this would make Kirby and the Forgotten Land sell 5.27 million units, a whole new record for the Kirby series. This is pretty exciting news for both Nintendo and HAL Laboratory considering that it feels (in my humble opinion) like the Kirby series has been dead in the water for a short time. Also, let’s not forget how long and complicated the road to making Kirby and the Forgotten Land was, so no doubt this is a worthwhile statistic for all the hard work that went into making the pink puffball 3D.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which was rated 4/5 by Editor-in-Chief Tom Orry in his review, was the pink Poyo’s first full 3D adventure. Not only was this just a great accomplishment for HA and the Kirby series, but the game was really fun. It’s perhaps safe to say that Kirby’s future is bright… and pink.
