Instagram investigated after users report problems accessing accounts – National

Instagram is investigating an issue that has prevented thousands of its users from accessing the photo-sharing platform, with several of them complaining that their accounts have been suspended.

“We are aware that some of you are having trouble accessing your Instagram account. We are looking into this and apologize for the inconvenience,” Instagram, owned by Meta Platforms Inc, said on its Twitter account on Monday.

A spokesman for Instagram did not comment on the suspension of accounts. Several Instagram users tweeted that the application asked for an email id and phone number to access their suspended account.

As of 11:13 a.m. ET, nearly 3,000 users were affected, according to outage tracking website Downdetector, which compiles status reports from a number of sources, including user-submitted bugs on its platform. The outage may affect a much larger number of users.

Meta’s shares traded nearly five percent lower amid a broader sell-off in stock markets.
