Forgotten PS4 arcade racing games

The racing game genre has consistently been one of the most diverse over the years. In the 8-bit era, titles like Out Run, Pole Position, Super Mario Kart, F-Zero, Road Rash, and more were a must. Then, in the 3D age, classics such as Gran Turismo 4, Burnout, Need for Speed, Test Drive Unlimited, Midnight Club, and others became some of the most fun players to have had racing games.

Fast forward to 2022, and the video game industry is more saturated with realism than anything else. As a result, racing games have been relegated to simulation-based driving rather than good old high-speed racing. Fortunately, there are some forgotten but new arcade racing games that players can still find enough on their consoles.

10/10 Crash Team Racing with Nitro Fuel

Crash Team Racing with Nitro Fuel is a kart racing game from the legendary development team Beenox. The game was released in Summer 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch and received great reviews from major publications such as GamesRadar+, IGN, Nintendo Life and others.

Crash Team Racing with Nitro Fuel contains popular characters from the Crash Bandicoot Series. These names include Crash Bandicoot, Dr. Neo Cortex, Tiny Tiger, Coco Bandicoot, Penta Penguin and over fifty others. The game first appeared on Microsoft Windows in 2016, but soon found its way to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One a year later.

Redout offers fun and fast-paced gameplay where gravity plays the major role. In this game, players must accelerate at top speed and fight their way through loops, jumps, teleportation-based areas, underwater and tube sections.

8/10 Dangerous driving

Dangerous driving is a 2019 arcade racing game from British developer team Three Fields Entertainment. It’s a fast-paced game inspired by classics like Burnout Dominator, Burnout Revenge, Burnout 3: Takedown, and more. The game offers similar destruction to the classics, but expect a much higher fidelity of graphics and gameplay design.

in the Dangerous driving, players get a massive roster of drivable vehicles, gameplay that encourages ramming, and seamless online play that works. On top of that, the game also features the good old takedown mechanic from the amazing old man Burn out Series.

7/10 Obliteration of the Omega Collection

That obliterate series is a long-running franchise featuring some of the best arcade racing games of all time. It’s a sci-fi racing game series with futuristic vehicles, floating tracks and a neon city with a cyberpunk feel. The newest entry in the franchise, wipeout Omega Collection, takes the fun experience to another level by offering two games.

The first is Wipeout HD with the Wipeout HD Fury expansion pack, and the next is Wipeout 2048 with some much-needed visual upgrades. Obliteration of the Omega Collection is a perfect combination of two anti-gravity racing games that fans of arcade-style driving must try.

6/10 Horizon Chase Turbo

That Horizon Chase Turbo is not part of Sony’s post-apocalyptic horizon Games, but it’s certainly just as polished. Retro styled arcade racer is a 2018 title that mixes the best elements of casual driving games with high-speed sport-oriented racing. Horizon Chase Turbo is a “super fun, no-nonsense classic” inspired by ’90s racing games.

It features a unique visual design, colorful graphics, different tracks, multiple vehicles and game mechanics that are super addictive. Additionally, the retro racer is one of the highest rated games on this list, holding a 10/10 on Steam.

5/10 FlatOut 4: Total madness

FlatOut 4: Total madness is an arcade racing game with some elements of car simulation. This high-speed game is a long-running hit FlatOut Series that originated in the early 2000s. The fourth game in the series does a lot of things that the old games did well, but also adds a layer of modern racing game mechanics into the mix.

FlatOut 4: Total madness is a decent game that might be fun on occasion. It’s not the best arcade racer for PlayStation 4, but it’s definitely worth trying one out as it’s cheap.

4/10 TrackMania Turbo

TrackMania Turbo is a high speed arcade racing game released in 2016. It’s a Ubisoft game and part of the TrackMania Series that is mostly PC exclusive. Luckily, the fifteenth main game in the series breaks the exclusivity trend by allowing console players to experience what TrackMania is all about.

TrackMania Turbo is currently available for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It offers great single player with lots of challenges and online mode for people who love real competition. The game is free for PlayStation Plus Extra owners.

3/10 street redemption

When street rash was first released in 1991 and offered a unique bike riding gameplay in addition to physical combat mechanics. Over the next few years, the game series grew into one of the most popular arcade-style racing games. Unfortunately, the series suddenly disappeared in the late 90’s after EA released the last main game. road rash: jailbreak, on PlayStation 1.

For years gamers have been yearning for a sequel or remake of the street rash Series that never really happened. That was up street redemption came out and billed itself as the ultimate spiritual successor to the classics.

Burnout Paradise Remastered takes all the good points of the original and amplifies it on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms. For the first time, console gamers could experience this classic on monitors with up to 4K resolution and support for 60 frames per second.
